Carabao Cup holders Manchester City made another big statement following their semi-final victory over Manchester United on Wednesday night to follow up on the big victory at Chelsea over the weekend. Manchester City heaped more pressure on underfire Chelsea boss Frank Lampard after they blew his team away in their Premier League clash on Sunday evening. Manchester City ran out 3-1 win at the home of Chelsea with goals from IlkayGundogan, former Blues player Kevin De Bruyne and Phil Foden, while substitute Callum Hudson-Odoi scored for the home team. The win over Chelsea preceded the victory over Manchester United in the Carabao Cup.
Manchester City have been very dominant in the Carabao Cup over the last three seasons and a fourth successive title could be on the cards after the last four win over hosts Manchester United at the Theatre of Dreams last night. After a goalless affair in the first half, Manchester City broke the deadlock through England international John Stones at the start of the second half. The Three Lions of England centre back was rewarded for his fantastic form in the Manchester City defence over the last two months. John Stones has gradually played himself into reckoning as far as the next England squad is concerned. John Stones would be hoping to maintain his form for the Citizens in time to make the next England squad in March 2021.
