OXLADE-CHAMBERLAIN TO MISS CITY GAME

England international Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will likely miss the Manchester City game in the Community Shield due to injury. The former Arsenal and Southampton star is not expected to feature in the Liverpool squad for the City clash. Oxlade-Chamberlain is one of six Liverpool players expected to miss out on the squad for the Community Shield.

Apart from England midfielder Oxlade-Chamberlain, Liverpool will also miss the services of five players for the City game. The Merseyside giants have a lot of injuries in their squad as they step up preparations for the Community Shield. Liverpool qualified for this year’s Community Shield by winning the FA Cup title last season via the penalty shootout win over Chelsea. The Reds will face Manchester City in the Community Shield on Saturday after the Citizens saw off the challenge of the Reds to win the Premier League trophy last season.

The other injured players at Liverpool at the moment are new signing Calvin Ramsay, Diogo Jota, Alisson Becker, Caoimhin Kelleher and KostantinosTismikas.

Jota is one of five major forwards at Liverpool. The other forwards are Mohamed Salah, new signing Darwin Nunez, Roberto Firmino and Luis Diaz. Portugal international Jota has not played a single minute for the Reds in pre-season football this summer. He has been injured for several weeks since being in action for Portugal during last month’sSet of UEFA Nations League games.

Liverpool boss JurgenKlopp spoke about Jota during his pre-match press conference for the Community Shield as he revealed that the player won’t be available for the City game and that he will miss the start of the new Premier League campaign. Also, Klopp and Liverpool will be withouttheir first two goalkeepers namely Alisson Becker and Caoimhin Kelleher. In the absence of the two shot stoppers, third choice goalkeeper Adrian would be in goal for the City game in the Community Shield.
